Oh, and another thing about UoP... It does have the dreaded group study work, which I absolutly hate!!!
I got my BS in Business Admin, and am finishing up my masters in management at a Brick and Mortar school that requires group work, and it is a HUGE negative. I can't tell you how many people are getting their degrees simply because they have been lucky enough to end up in a group with people who are willing and able to carry them through. I can't help but wonder what that will do to the school's reputation once employers find out just how easy it can be to get a degree from one of these programs. The reason these accelerated programs require group work is because it is a part of their accrediting requirements: In order to be able to offer greatly accelarated courses, the schools have to mandate that students spend a certain amount of time outside of class working on their coursework. In my program, we are supposedly spending 4 hours a week with our groups. I have had instructors remind us of this requirement with a wink... Anyway, from what I have seen in my program, the school really does not care about the quality of education that it is providing. It appears that my program is mostly viewed as a source of revenue that helps keep the school going for its traditional students. My school is a private school in Milwaukee that has a very good reputation as far as its traditional programs go. Unfortunatly for those of us who actually applied ourselves to receive our degrees in the adult program, it is starting to get the bad rap that it deserves! |

I have talked to an admissions counselor at Northcentral University and visited many other discussion boards about the university. Most I can gather is that they arent exactly online, actually correspondenced based and that it depends on the mentor or course faciliator that one gets for a particular class, whether or not actually have some interaction. Basically there are no discussion boards or anything like that, just emailing back and forth. I could personally live without interaction and it wouldnt bother me to just be given assignments and then hand them in. Of course everyone is different. When I talked to the school back in December about their doctorate programs, I was told that if one was a state employee they could obtain a discount, providing they had proper documentation of working for a state, this is not on their website. Plus you can transfer in an additionl 15 semester credit hours of doctoral level credit, in addition to the credit you receive for a masters degree. The only turn offs I had about NCU, was that they do not participate in any student loan programs, I could pay out of pocket and I really do not need any more student loans, but having that cushion would of been a plus for me. Apparently the school did have financial aid a few years back, but pulled it so students could have flexible start dates. I hope this helps. |

There are numerous schools offering online programs. Here are a few tips:
1) You want regional Accreditation 2) Can they tell you what percentage of students actually graduate (if they don't know or won't put it in an email (writing) then ... 3)How many of their available graduates are working in their trained field. Most schools can't tell you this --there are some that can because they actually have a career services dpartment that has a low student to career advisor ratio. 4)Remember --it all about graduating and finding a career. Community Colleges are OK but they don't provide you an edge |

and how horrible it is.
I go to Ashworth University. I know of people that went to UOP and I guess they were happy, but big/popular does not always mean the best Melanie |

I have no experience with these, however last time I checked online
there were some websites set up by people who were very upset with Phoenix (and another one too..) I would check them all out by googling "Name of University, criticism of" and doing a bit more research. I know what's good for some people is not necessarily good for others, but it does make sense to search out the praise AND the criticism. |

Of course there is. Any dimwit who cannot handle the demands of a degree program can either join a (or start his own) webpage or discussion board called [Name of Your Least Favorite University] Sucks. That is why we have CapellaSucks, ITTSucks, and UOPSucks, among others.
