Hi -
I definitely don't think this is a good subject for a poll...here's why. I know zero about Medvarsity - except that it's in India. So why would we expect accreditation details to be in the CHEA database? (American schools - 99% or more plus those very few non-US schools that have applied for and received accreditation from an American source.) The website tells me Medvarsity itself deals strictly in PG (Post-Grad) certificates for those who ALREADY HAVE medical degrees. I guess the only people who would know FOR SURE whether Medvarsity's PG certs would be valid in the U.S. would be those Medvarsity certificate holders who are foreign-trained physicians admitted to practice in the US - or the authorities who admit them to practice. If there are any such people out there (or US-qualified MD's whose foreign-trained colleagues have Medvarsity experience) who are interested in replying - great. If not, too bad - we'll never know. AND IF WE DON'T KNOW - MAYBE WE SHOULD ABSTAIN FROM VOTING. I HAVE. Again, I don't think this is the greatest subject for a poll... Johann Last edited by johann : 11-19-2007 at 10:19 PM. |

I abstain too. I know nothing of the school and plan no research because I have no interest in the subject.

Hi -
Medvarsity does not APPEAR to be an accredited med. school. In fact, it doesn't claim to be, either. On the website, the chairman says it was conceived to complement existing schools' resources. Much of their instruction is aimed at post-grads and the rest seems to be a supplement for students at the existing med. schools, which the Medvarsity message says have severely strained resources. Current med. students at other schools can get (purchase) study resources at Medvarsity but none of their medical courses are completed there. Medvarsity doesn't graduate any doctors! I note also the school has a .com domain - not .ac.in as one would expect of an accredited school. Looks like a school that doesn't grant degrees and says so. Accreditation? Thanks for the excellent site - if I knew what INDIAN STATE this virtual school resided in (the part that's actually on the ground, that is!) I could tell for sure. The Medvarsity site doesn't give a location. I don't think I'm buying what this poster is selling. He wants to promote Medvarsity by a vote - "Medvarsity is/is not a terrific school." HE SHOULD BUY AN AD! In summary, I think Medvarsity is probably USELESS unless you're already practising medicine in South Asia. And if you ARE, why wouldn't you go to a well-known ACCREDITED school for your post-grad education? This is just another attempt to drum up business for a place that basically sells lectures and study guides. I don't like that! Johann Last edited by johann : 12-08-2007 at 10:29 PM. |

I know noting about this school
But it is posible that they are approved for continuing education units. Some training centers in US for example offer continuing education to medical professionals. These providers approved by licensing boards in many of the US states but they are unaccredited. The continuing education units are required for some professionals. I will ask my friends from India if such a thing exists there and if this entity is something of this nature. |
