Default Maybe not what you wanted to hear...

Hi

I dug up an OLD thread from another forum and the answer appeared to be ...well...virtually none.

Here it is.... http://www.degreeboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1810

Here's a link to the one possibility mentioned (CCU) but that (very good) school has since attained mainstream accreditation (DETC) and presently offers no doctoral programs at all: www.calcoast.edu I believe it is currently in the process of seeking accreditation for a future D.Ed program - see http://www.calcoast.edu/fq_doctorial.php I doubt very much it'll be a "no dissertation" one, though. You could ask!

CCU has been in operation since 1973 and I've read others who said the former "no dissertation" doctorate actually involved significant writing (Project). At least one grad reported it as no picnic. He was examined (and passed) on his Doctoral Project by a committee of nine Ph.D's - two of them having Harvard doctorates.

The opposite (Doctorate by research or dissertation only) is more common, especially at UK schools and is available by distance, but often requiring short campus visits.

In case it's any use, here's a link on that: http://www.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?t=27181

Cheers

Johann

Their accreditor DETC requires doctorates such as DEd, DBA, or DA to have a dissertation. I think the general requirements also include at least 90 credits after the bachelors with a maximum of 18 credits for the dissertation.

The short-residency Doctor of Management degree at Colorado Technical University www.ctuonline.edu (accredited by the North Central Association) is a non-dissertation doctorate, but you are required to have several publishable articles by the time you graduate and they are expensive. Of course, there is always the first professional degree, which usually carries the doctoral title. Included in this category is the Juris Doctorate, which is awarded by William Howard Taft University www.taft.edu (accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council) and the Concord Law School www.concordlawschool.edu of Kaplan University www.kaplan.edu (accredited by the North Central Association and the Distance Education and Training Council).

Regent University's Doctor of Strategic Leadership (DSL) requires a project and not an actual dissertation:

Walden University's Ed.D. degree programs will let you complete a project but you have to also submit a conceptual paper, which is not like a dissertation, but can be almost as long:

Interestingly enough, I found a school named A.T. Still which presents a Doctorate of Health Education that does not have a dissertation requirement for graduation. The coursework seems to be aligned with traditional Ed.D. courses. The coursework absorbs most of the dissertation requirement, each class having some component they consider to be sufficient for completion.
