Hello all,
just joined the forum.I am considering an online degree,starting with associate leading to BA or BS in Healthcare administration.

Has anyone here had any experiences with Mckinley college.DETC accredadation,does this mean if I go to a DETC collge,get an associate it can be transferred to a DETC college for BS.

also I am considering Columbia southern Univ and Ashworth university,both DETC,any advise would be appreciated.

Have you looked at RA schools by any chance? Are you trying to work at a hospital in the states or elsewhere? While Penn Foster does not offer a degree in Healthcare Administration, they do off an associates in business and the school is NA and has a great reputation.

Scaredrain, I think you're misinformed on this. While Penn Foster is a GREAT school, its degree programs are DETC - Nationally accredited, not RA.

Go to www.pennfoster.edu and you can confirm that. I believe their High School program has Regional Accreditation, but definitely not their degrees.

For RA Associate degrees at low cost, I think the major providers would be the Community Colleges and the Big 3. www.excelsior.edu, www.tesc.edu and www.charteroak.edu Some popular online community college links are www.riosalado.edu, www.clovis.edu and www.maricopa.edu - all RA, of course.

Nothing against Penn Foster though! In fact, almost all their courses are ACE-reviewed and therefore acceptable in RA circles -incredible value at around $58 a credit hour! But the complete degree is definitely NA, not RA!

I'm sure the quality of education at PFC is as good as, or better than at some RA schools -just be sure a DETC degree will get you where you want to go - whether it's on the job or further study.

One thing - Associate22 - The McKinley degrees are A.A.S. - "Applied" degrees. They're PERFECTLY GOOD, but transferring them "in full" to another school to finish a bachelor's could be slightly different to an A.S. as they won't have much of the "general ed." category that's required in the A.S. and the Bachelor's. You will definitely be able to continue towards your Bachelors at another DETC school (and some RA schools) BUT - if you like McKinley (and you have no reason not to ) with the A.A.S you are more likely to be required to take some extra courses (general ed.) besides the straight two years' worth you plan on.

And - I'd consider Penn Foster before Ashworth - only because I've read about customer service complaints at Ashworth - phone response, shipments and accounting foulups etc. and none of the same sort at PFC. Nothing wrong with a degree from either school. Never heard about similar problems at McKinley either. I'm curious - couldn't find McKinley's fees on the site - can you enlighten me?

No you actually are helping, because imagine a student who actually thought that Penn Foster was RA, when its NA. I wear glasses myself, but combine that, while at the office and distractions, hence I hit RA instead of NA on the keyboard. You keep me on my toes!

It would appear McKinley is in roughly the same tuition ballpark as Ashworth and Penn Foster - makes sense. It's a big market.

McKinley could indeed be a very good choice for those seeking a nationally accredited Associate of Applied Science degree at reasonable cost.

The "applied" degrees might indeed be preferable to some, while others with different ultimate aims may decide they need an A.S. instead from one of the other schools.

My point: there's a school out there to suit just about anyone!
