American Pacific University-Doctorate in Clinical Hypnotherapy

I enrolled at American Pacific University-docorate program with the concentration of Clinical Hypnotherapy.

At that time, the uni was not accredited by any accrediting organizations but, I accepted the fact and proceed the enrolment as none of universities in the world actually offered my specialization at the doctorate level.

The university has now received the accreditation from DETC.

Still I have experienced or have been experiencing the following incidents which seem to be unusual for other accredited schools.

1. Submitted reports have not been returned graded for nearly half year.( It is stated on the university website that the expected return of graded reports is three weeks)

2. New fees have been established and I was charged for 100 dollars for admin fee. (If not paid, I was threatened, I would be dismissed )

3. Academic questions not answered for 2 weeks.

4. Questions regarding student service are ignored and reminder emails have to be sent most of the time.

Now university sent me a notification that I was dismissed from university for non compliance with the uni regulation, which I had been indeed.

The university has now a master degree in transpersonal psychology and for its unique field of study, the uni appears to be getting more popular.

But I warn you, you shold be cautious choosing the school if you do not want to be in the position like me.

Contact the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint. Another option is to stop paying any more money and leave the university. If you feel you are not getting your money's worth, I would withdraw and find another program that met my needs.

The DETC do not accredit institutions offering doctorates. APU dropped these quite some time ago. Looks like they dropped you too. Good luck, but its poor form.

Thank you both for your answers. I have contacted the university to reconsider the decision but it seems that nothing dramatic is going to happen.... What a great university.

The university probably had no choice but to drop its doctorate programs after they sought accreditation. DETC as of now only accredits the Ed.D and DBA at the doctorate levels. Harrison Middleton does have an DA degree but thats a rare case. I think its great American Pacific has become DETC accredited. Consider going for one of those types of doctorates if they can meet your needs, having an accredited degree is more useful than an unaccredited one.
