Default Kaplan University-ripoff!!!

Unfortunately, I am a current student at Kaplan University's online program. I am taking the Criminal Justice program trying to get my bachelor's. What I am getting is a really bad headache.

The financial aid department there is so unprofessional, it is unreal. They cancel your Pell Grants without your knowledge just to begin with. It took me over a YEAR to get my financial aid rep to call me back...yes I said a year. They gave me another one, and she is no better. I email her my concerns, she emails me back to call her. I call her, she does not return my calls.

The financial aid department there covers each others tail, because, if you ask for a supervisor, nobody knows any names and is unwilling to escalate the issue.

Kaplan University is the biggest mistake I ever made. I enrolled and am now in debt more than 20,000. If I continue, I still have a year to go and have to endure the ignorant people at Kaplan...but, if I withdraw I only have 94 credits that I found out won't transfer anywhere plus the debt.

I don't recommend this online rip-off to anyone. Please, do yourself a favor and attend on campus. Don't be stupid like me.

I am surprised the credits will not transfer, Kaplan is a RA school. Have you tried places such as Excelsior College, Thomas Edison State, or Charter Oak State College aka the Big Three??

www.cosc.edu

They have a generous transfer policy.

I applied to Kaplan for their online GRE test prep before I realized the MS program I was enrolled in had bridge courses to avoid the exam. Kaplan was very courteous and professional and returned my money very quickly with no hassle at all. I don't know about their financial aid program but their customer service in other areas is outstanding.

They cannot cancel your Pell Grants only the federal government can, since the money comes from the government. If you are not enrolled after a certain amount of time then you are automatically dropped and the aide disappears. I refuse to believe that anyone would wait a year for financial aid and not call the university themselves. I also never have known of an university that allows a person to apply for financial aid for prep courses, so your story sounds a bit fishy to say the least.

There are so many online programs you can move without losing too many credits. Check around in the area you live and check for blogs with comments like this one about the school. Get out now before you are in too deep!!
