This is from their website.

ACCREDITATION:

Century University is an accredited Comprehensive Member with Honor from 1979 to present of the following professional Accrediting Commission:

The Accrediting Commission International (A.C.I.)

The A.C.I. Accrediting Commission has not requested a listing nor is it recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Have a look at this thread and then come to some conclusions.

Once you have done that then have a look at this site for some ideas.

Hi -

Accreditation by ACI is viewed by some as worse than NO accreditation at all. There is plenty of very bad press (from people smarter than me) about ACI of Beebe, Arkansas. For a sample, see Dr. John Bear's article, "IAC, ACI and the Three Stooges."

http://www.quackwatch.org/04ConsumerEducation/dm3.html

After reading that, I don't know why you'd want it, but ACI's website is www.accreditnow.com.
Got $3,000 plus ACI's travel expenses? Get accredited now! We've discussed ACI before in other threads. HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO DO IT?

Now -- do you STILL want to go to Century U., or ANY school ...um "accredited" by ACI?

The following is a letter I wrote to my faculty advisor, after things started raising a red flag for me.

One iota of due diligence would have spared you all the grief.
Over many years I have been exposed to or in touch with dozens of schools...not one single time have I missed the divide between legitimate and dodgy or fraudulent schools.
I am not smarter than anyone...I just ask a few questions...I even asked those questions when enrolling with Athabasca or Open University...I remember counselors were quite surprised...one even told me the OU was 'known by all' to be a top legitimate school...I told her I didn't care what 'others' or 'all' thought...I needed to reach my own conclusions before wearing any school's badge...
Among the hundreds of accredited options there surely is one for anyone...no need of 'exotic' or 'new' solutions...

IMO it is difficult to comprehend how anyone could become involved with any unaccredited school if they carefully conducted their homework prior to attending such "schools". There is so much information abounding on the internet regarding unaccredited schools, such as this and other distance education forums, that the onus really falls on the prospective student to review the available data pertaining to such "schools" prior to, not subsequent, to entering such a program. As with any product or service being offered with great enthusiasm, caveat emptor should be the guiding force behind any of our actions prior to making a major time and financial committment.

I am not an American, I have never visited the US, my country like all European countries have not an accreditation system for universities and when I start to read about the American educational system, five or six years ago, the understanding of what is a diploma or accreditation mill, a state license etc, took me a day or two.

Stop to pretending the unsuspected victims people. It is a disgrace for a person to pretend that he/she is an idiot, when a degree mill or a degree from a state approved school stops to accommodate his/her purposes.

It is more than likely outsiders will regard people wanting to 'come clean' of dodgy or fraudulent schools as people who wanted to pull a fast'n'easy one but it eventually backfired and now they are all confused.

American Century University is California approved by the Bureau of PostSecondary and Vocational Education and State-Licensed by New Mexia. That's not a Diploma mill. Unaccredited are NOT diploma mill at all automatically, that makes no sense, it's hilarious! The Education Secretary makes it clear on the related website.

Actually, there are many unaccredited schools out there that are the furthest thing from being a mill and many of these schools eventually gain accreditation.

Not being accredited does not automatically make a school a mill. Being able to "buy" a degree via "life experience" and little to no work for an incredibly low price ("$500.00") would constitute a mill.

My question is: Where does ACU stand?

State Licensed in both N.M. and CA., requires considerable work, and is far from being free/cheap but not too expensive either.

I would respect more if they didn't claim unrecognized accreditation.
Their New Mexico license expired 2 months ego.
California is not approving schools anymore. The new law may take years so there is no approval in CA.

At the moment there is no new license on their web site so they are unlicensed and unaccredited at the moment.

I also agree that not all unaccredited schools are mills.

The definition to what is DIploma Mill or Degree Mill is not fixed or constant.

California Coast University was state approved for many years before it earned DETC accreditation.

This ACU university degree is illegal in number of states in USA.
This degree will not be evaluated by reputable and recognized agency or Ministry of Education in Europe as recognized or equivalent to EU degree.

But in private sector, businesses are free to make their choice and there may be use for a degree.

I personally recommend to attend university with recognized accreditation.

Mr. ShotoJuku, American Century University is still licensed in New Mexico.

ACU is listed on the former BPPVE listed as being approved pending the new legislation reform.

True enough, I am also a CCU grad.

This ACU university degree is illegal in number of states in USA.

ACU seems to meet the approval standards established here in Florida as per Florida State Statute.

I personally recommend to attend university with recognized accreditation.

As do I. However, a terminal/professional degree from ACU might be interesting.
