Hello,
Does anyone know about Akamai University from USA?
Below is the website:
http://www.akamaiuniversity.us/
Besides USA, they also operate in Eastern Europe, Asia Pacific and Middle-East.
The question here is does Akamai is a genuine institution or just another bogus university?
Hope to hear your opinion.

The place is not recognised by the USDOE of education, one will have to look deeper at the courses ans course structure to determine if its a mill, I think Johann is the expert in that field and will be able to give you sound advice in that department

Hi Alex. Why do you ask? Is there a specific program that interests you? I you take some time to tell the board about your interests and objectives perhaps we can help you. So far you have named only very suspect schools as ones that interest you. Perhaps you are just an innocent looking for guidance so I will suggest that you ask questions designed to guide you rather than propose names which appear meant to inflame.

Hi,
I thought this a forum that people can share anything as long as related to degree or university.
Well, I just would like to get people' opinion about this institution if it is worth for people to enroll, if it is a diploma mill...etc.

Well after surfing the website, I can reach the following conclusions:
Not recognised by the USDOE
Not state licenced
no accreditation from any official body.
Anyone looking at the site will say this school, is a mill, although they dont sell degrees, there is books and studying inbvolved. That would be a +, and not expensive either, on the flip side, employers will have some difficulty in recognising the qualification for employment purposes. My recommendation is rather choose a RA or DECT recgnised place, to be on the safe side.
Good Luck

You did not answer the question. Why? What are you trying to accomplish? What degree and at what level are you trying to find? Do you have any special constraints such as money, time, poor internet access, intermitent availability because of work? How can this board best help you attain your goal? What is your goal?

My suspicion is that he is looking for something for nothing. It's always the same questions about the same type of school.
Why not ask about Harvard or Yale for a change otherwise please change the channel - I've seen this show before!!!!!

Well, I'm looking for a genuine distance learning business school with good reputation and affordable fees. I'm not rich and working in a small company.
I have a very strong interest in business research and wish to do doctorate in Business Administration (DBA). I have MBA from Fox Business School. It is a great business school, unfortunately they don't offer distance learning.
My final goal to get DBA and also to publish business books and sell in Amazon.com.
So, how can you help me?

MBA (Fox)

Thank you. Now there is some meat to your question and I can try to offer some suggestions. I assume you mean this Fox Business School (http://sbm.temple.edu/prospect/ ).
There are several options open for you to consider. The most affordable of these is probably through South Africa. There have been a couple of threads on this board discussing the schools and the utility of the degrees. There are some issues with response times to questions but patience will overcome these limitations.
I am not sure what you are looking for in terms of money but some other options may be found here.

These are not all distance learning degrees but it will give you some idea of what is available. North Central University ( http://www.ncu.edu/ ) has been getting a lot of attention lately and seems to be offering a decent program. I think you can "pay as you go" if that helps with the finances rather than cough up the entire tuition up front.
The Australian universities also offer good value and some can be done on line.
Thank you for clarifying your objectives and allowing us the opportunity to provide some meaningful feedback.

Thanks you very much for your suggestion.
I'm very interested to know more about NCU(North Central University) because this is the 1st time I heard about it.
Is NCU an acreadited university by US education?
What is the reputation of NCU comparing to other well-known online University like Phoenix?
So far have any board members have learning experinence with NCU? If yes, please share with me.

It depends on what you want to study, and the budget that you have for that, as you know, American Universities that are RA and NA accredited are very expensive. If you want to increase knowledge and dont need accreditation go for a State lIcenced institution.
If you want a recognised degree, but have a low budget check out the South African schools as DRJ recommeded

Well, my consideration only either from US, UK or australia.
Traditionally, you can get a good school from those countries with reasonable fee. Of course, accredited degree is a must for me because I may teach in college one day.
By the way do you have any experience about Australian business school?
I wish to experinece the australian education since both my previous degree I got from US.

Hi, I'd be happy to provide you with information regarding Akamai University, an online institution that was founded five years ago. I've been a doctoral student at Akamai since the beginning of the program in 2002. My course program has involved taking 18 credits of courses in my major field (TESOL) and 12 in my minor field of studies (Social Psychology in Education), which includes 6 research preparation courses. I completed the coursework over a two-year period, followed by the research preparation modules. I am currently writing my dissertation under the supervision of three faculty members, one of whom has been my primary mentor since the beginning. The dissertation research and writing phase has been an intensive (!) yet extremely rewarding experience. I consider it both a privilege and an opportunity to continue my education with Akamai. The online program has afforded me the flexibility to study without interrupting my work and family situation under the professional guidance of the various course professors around the globe.

Yes NCU is a RA institution just as UoP is. I have not experienced either program but know people who have. My choice would be NCU. Their cost structure is reasonable and their program, while fairly new, has attracted a lot of positive comments on other boards.

Thank you for the feedback. I am attaching a link to thread on another forum that will shed some light on Akamai University. The thread is an on line interview/discussion with Dr. Capogrossi of Akamai and the moderator of the board.

Akamai is genuine but unaccredited.
If the job requires an accredited degree - no.
If your state has a prohibition on unaccredited degrees, be careful. While the law may be illegal, it could be costly proving it.
