I'd also like to speak with Univ. of Phoenix students. I had a friend who used to go there, but I've lost contact with her now that I'm in the position to go myself. Just the luck, eh?

DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL! I have been enrolled there for almost a year and have had more problems than you can imagine. My second semester, I was out for a week while having my child, and they refused to let me make up the work I missed. This was only one of the loooong list of issues I've had with them. When you talk to them, they'll also tell you they're 'nationally accredited'. Sounds good, right? There's no such thing! This school is nothing but a waste of time and money.

WOW  Thanks for posting!! My fear is/was once you signed up you would be lost in the system and have no physical communication with the school. I didnt even think about what you mentioned!!

Unfortunately, that is a problem. I don't if it's that way for every school, but I know thru phoenix, it's almost impossible to get a response for anything. I've been trying to unenroll for two weeks, and they refuse to do it or call me back!

Oh wow. What degree were you working towards? Are you going to try to get a tuition refund?

I would love to hear more about your experience as well. We have such little knowledge on the schools out there anything you can think of to explain the situation would be appreciated.

\"University of Phoenix\" = \"This school?\"
I'm going to hazard a guess and a s s u m e, don't like doing that, but this is a new thread in a comments forum, so far University of Phoenix has been mentioned in each thread.
I would like to hear about other institutions also.
As in the above thread, I do suggest that if you live close to a good school, and the prices are comparable, take the human connection if you can get it. If you ask around there, I'm sure that you'll find ASU is like my most recent school, Eastern Washington University, and offers on-line degrees that are actually connected with warm smiling faces.
Well, sometimes they smile - but \"It's a dry heat!\"
Buck up, autumn is coming!
I would follow my own advice, but currently and for the knowable future I'm here in Korea without that option.

I've been taking classes through the University of Maryland. It is a bit pricey, comparable to University of Phoenix, but you actually have an advisor that you can talk to, and they have been great whenever I had any questions. They seemed very organized and dedicated to their students. Best thing, the online degree is supposed to be indistinguishable from their b&m degrees, so you're employer would never know you earned your degree online, unless you tell them.

I've heard other good things about the University of Maryland. It seems to be the real deal!

Since my husband was a member of the old forum and he posted quite alot about his experiences while working toward his degree at MSU so I thought I would chime in about my experience there so far. I currently am enrolled in the B.S. program in Health Promotion and I have not had one problem with anyone there since I started a little over a year ago. All of my courses have been distance education independent study courses with proctored exams and I have a 3.5 GPA with approx 60 + credits under my belt. All of the instructors are easy to contact and quick to respond answering questions and returning grades plus they offer approx 300 courses that can be taken through I.S. So even if you are not in a degree program there you can take courses through MSU and transfer them to another school.
My husband is currently working on his masters at a distance there and his experiences thus far have been the same.
Take care

How do we really get to know if an university is accredited or not? Here in this thread, one member (mbonner1985) claims Univ of Phoenix is not accredited, while another one (I like the username imported admin:p ) argues it is accredited. All the time I was thinking univ of phoenix was a genuine, student-friendly school.....

What is the process for applying to the Master's programs at MSU, and just how costly is costly? (per hour?)
I would also like to know what it means to be accredited and if there are multiple accredidation programs.

Is it true that there are two different kinds of accredition, regional and national? Would this make a difference in credit transfers, etc???

The University of Phoenix is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. and on its main website it list the accrediting agency address and a link, also there is such thing as a nation wide accredited body, mostly for profit companies like corithins college get accredited through these agencies.
National accreditation is granted to specialized institutions—technical schools, health or computer related institutions, for example—that offer at least an associate degree. The national accrediting bodies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education are: Accrediting Association of Bible Colleges
Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools
Accrediting Commission for Career Schools/Colleges of Technology
Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools
Association of Advanced Rabbinical and Talmudic Schools
The Association of Theological Schools
Council on Occupational Education
Distance Education and Training Council
if you need more proof just go to U.S Dept of Education and they have a page to verify not only the College you go to but also the accredited agency!!!!
