They all seem to have good accreditation, by they are definetly affordable to the average individual. So the average person, like myself have to attend an "unaccredited" school. Is that fair?

Merry Christmas Johann

Hi Ahmed -

Merry Christmas to you also. It's been a great one here, and I wish you the same.

Now - to work. Based on a quick look at Breyer State, there seems to be NO REASON to sign on with an unaccredited school to save money - despite your rather casual remarks to the contrary.

Breyer State charges $400 for a 3-unit undergrad course ($550 at Doctoral level, as I'm sure you know.) Louisiana State University (RA) charges $229 for a 3-credit distance ed. undergraduate course.

Thomas Edison State College (TESC) is one of the Big 3 Distance Ed schools and is on Mokonzi's list. There is no tuition as such for work completed elsewhere and you can complete your degree 100% by CLEP tests etc and work taken at other accredited schools. (There is of course a yearly credit-banking fee - 'way less than tuition would be, and many can complete an undergrad degree in a year or two.)

Community Colleges (RA) can provide the first two years of a degree program, often for as little as $40-60 a credit - less than half of Breyer State. A two-year degree (NA) can also be had from distance schools like Ashworth College or Penn Foster for around $55-60 a credit hour. And these are REAL degrees you can use to go further.

Another RA distance-ed bargain is Peru State College in Nebraska at $115 a credit hour, again less than Breyer State.

If a DETC (NA) degree is what you need, Andrew Jackson University is an excellent NA school at $465 a 3-credit course - a smidge over Breyer State but again, a REAL degree to be proud of.

Ahmed, instead of sending your money to Breyer State, I think you should have:

(a) Done proper research into what was available. I contend that if you actually could not perform this relatively minor research task, (and I don't think that was the case) you'd have a DEVIL of a time with the much more rigorous research required in ANY genuine Doctoral program! I'm presuming this research is something you just neglected to do, rather than something you couldn't do!

(b) Seized one of the incredible bargains in Distance Education in your own country - South Africa. We both know the country is pretty well mill-free and the cost of some programs is absurdly low by North American standards, due largely to the currency exchange rate.

You are a business major, with an accredited South African MBA from Milpark and I think you should have been in a position to take advantage of that opportunity. Indeed, you had first-hand knowledge of it.

There is no reason for you to state that all you could afford is an unaccredited school. It is simply not true. With Breyer State, you paid more, for less! :-)
