Hi -
I didn't know either, but it only took 5 minutes' effort to find out!
Pretty much the whole story is on this site of the AQF (Australian Qualifications Framework) : www.aqf.edu.au/register.htm#university
Bond describes itself as "Australia's first private not-for-profit university." In the U.S., that description would likely be a contradiction in terms (but most certainly a first!) Bond teaches a wide spectrum of subjects, including Medicine and a new Doctor of Physiotherapy program.
Universities are pretty much self-accrediting, AFTER being established by the proper State, Territory or Commonwealth legislation. Bond University is on the list and Bond also refers (on its site) to preparation for audit by AUQA, the Australian Universities Quality Agency, a private quality assurance body formed in 2000. Their website is www.auqa.edu.au
I'm sure there's MUCH more on the subject of Australian accreditation-or-equivalent that can be offered by our member, Mr. George Brown, of Australasia HigherEd Consulting Pty.
George, do you care to share your expertise with Ahmed, ShotoJuku and me? Is there anything further we should know about Bond University, or checking for proper Australian Universities' credentials in general? :-)

Thanks for the effort Johann
Thats a first a university that claims to be non-profit that charges $70 000 for a degree, and they do have a wide range of programmes.
The reason I asked about this school is because the SA government closed it down, and claimed the school is sub-standard, is that true?

Hi Ahmed -
Considering the way SA runs schools (very well) this outfit musta done something wrong - or they'd still be operating. I never heard of the SA Bond Uni except through your postings -are we sure the 2 Bonds (007 and 008?) are related?
I'll dig around but I know of no problems with the Australian school.

Hi Ahmed -
Bond South Africa (yes, parent school is Bond Australia) decided to leave South Africa after de-accreditation of its MBA program. Bond's was one of ten MBA programs to be de-accredited around the same time.
Although Bond South Africa taught many other programs besides the MBA, they decided that they would leave South Africa once the present crop of students had finished their degrees. I believe two or three foreign Universities made much the same decision as Bond when their MBA programs were de-accredited.
This info is ALL out there. Hast thou no Google? :-)

Vey true, their MBA programms were de-registered because the government claimed they were sub-standard, did not meet SA required standards, but Milpark, where I was studying at the time was allowed to continue with its MBA courses (I was glad for that).
What I would like to know is Bond accredited in the USA?

Bond holds no accreditation from the USA that I know of. Few non-US universities do. One here in Canada does (Athabasca) and some South African ones are - (believe UNISA is DETC accredited plus its own SAQA) as it helps attract US students.
Just about all SA and Canadian degrees are considered RA equivalent. Sometimes there are probs with 3-year BA's because they don't exist in US. (We do have them here in Canada).
I'd venture to say a Bond (Australia) degree would be equivalent in most cases to RA. I daresay it'd likely be OK in SA too, as long as it wasn't an MBA - and even that might be OK if taught on a different curriculum to the "de-accredited" SA one.
I know a Bond degree would be OK by-and-large in Canada - at least in 90% of schools. If you're thinking of a Bond distance degree, there are some snooty outfits -probably in all 3 of US SA and Canada that won't accept ANY distance degree at all.
Best advice - go to the qualifying authority in the country of your choice - see if they say it's OK.

Yes Johann.
I think that is the best before venturing on a overseas university one should check the status of the school, with you local accreditation department, or whoever deals with accreditation of foreign qualifications.
I thought of Bond university, but they are very expensive, and their MBA is worthless here, that would de-accredit the entire school, in the view of some employers.
I think I would enroll rather at UNISA, but thanks for the info on Bond.
