Hi All,

I have Six Years experience, in felid of Information Technology

I am Microsoft Certified and COMP TIA Certified and HP Certified.

Due to some financial problems I did not continued my studies.

Because of lacking degree I am losing so many opportunities. So please advice me, do you know any University which provides a Degree based on Life Experience??? Which is valid to do my MBA from a well known university? Or any low cost university based on that I can complete my degree in one year.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi -

First of all, only a worthless degree mill will sell you a "degree for life experience." Please forget that idea completely!

That said, you CAN turn your certification into quite a number of credits toward a degree at Excelsior (see below). As far as completing your degree in a year - yes, it can be done. People have done this via CLEP tests etc.

See www.bain4weeks.com for an example of how this works for people.

Check out www.excelsior.edu I firmly believe this is your quickest, least expensive route to a Bachelor's degree. A degree from here is Regionally Accredited (means widest acceptance) so you would have a good range of schools to choose from when it's time for the MBA!

I wish you every success. :-)

Hi There

Well, Because you mentioned you have financial problems (who does'nt), I would advise that you study in a country that is affordable, and has a lower currency then yours.

Johann has given you some good leads and advise, I hate to say this, but I have to agree with him.

Try this school, its very cheap, equal to RA accreditation, and a very credible and reputable school, www.intec.edu.za/computer/computer.htm.

Good Luk

Hi again, Ahmed!

Right - SA schools are great, and cheap, especially by North American standards. BUT - INTEC, your school of choice, doesn't appear to grant DEGREES - only diploma-and-certificate level studies, unless I missed something on the site. (Tell us if I did!)

Second - speed is of the essence - I doubt if you can find our reader a SA school where he can finish an accredited Bachelor's in a year. He CAN at Excelsior (provided he can do CLEP tests etc.) Of course, outside U.S. those are pretty well unavailable. I didn't ask where he is.

Why don't you recommend some SA Bachelor-level distance schools, in case the Excelsior route doesn't work for our friend!

I wish all the greatest success...and may there be some left over for ME! :-)

To get further into this, INTEC seems to be the SA successor to ICS, famous distance school since the 1890s. Their degree-granting mechanism seems to vary from country to country, always in accordance with proper credentials. In the US they have Penn Foster College, DETC accredited and offering about 20 Associate Degree (2 year) programs. No Bachelor level degrees.

In Canada, their present incarnation, Thompson Learning does not offer degrees at all. Canadian students DO have access to the US degree programs (Penn Foster) if they want.

In the U.K. ICS offers some programs to the Bachelor level - I think these are jointly administered with a British University (or two) - I think it works like this: Your degree has a proper University name, but you pay your tuition to ICS.

In South Africa, it appears INTEC does not yet offer degrees. If they start, I'm sure they'll have proper accreditation. As Ahmed has told us (rightly) so often, only properly-credentialed schools are allowed in SA.

The fakes are cast into the sea or the desert - whichever is handier! (If we did this in North America, we'd fill up BOTH!)

Cheers :-)

Hi Johann

I dont know where they guy that need advise is from, that would help in recommending a school.

Anyways, INTEC does not award degrees, I have'nt really browsed these others, I would recommend the following Dist. learning, be checked out, they are all accredited, as mentioned before equal to RA accreditation:

Hi Johann/Vijay

Well, to do a Bachelors very quickly, I want to be honest that I don't know any school where you can do it quicker, I think our learned friend Johann might be able to help with that.

When it come to financial constraints, the best and one of the cheapest is UNISA and no question of accreditation, one of the best in the world, there are also may students from India enrolled in UNISA.

The site is www.unisa.edu.za check it out and wish you the best.
Off the topic, how's the chicks in India, we have some very pretty indians here (lol)

Good Luck

Hi Vijay -

You mention a budget of $1500-2000. I think India is likely your best (or maybe only) bet.

I'd try Indira Gandhi National Open University. Again, I think you can expect credit for your certifications - and maybe something else as a prior learning component.

Good school: www.ignou.ac.in

I wish you every success. :-)

You wont be sorry if you choose UNISA, very cheap I am sure you will be able to do a bachalors, with
$2000

Let Johann give you a break down of their accreditation compared to the US as he is very learned in that field

Good Luck

Hi Guys -

Yes Ahmed --we are agreed about UNISA. A degree from UNISA is definitely RA-equivalent in US terms. No doubt about that -- never was any!

And after our long previous correspondence, I can appreciate your joke about my being "very learned" which, of course, I'm not (about anything!)

If Vijay chooses UNISA, he's making an EXCELLENT choice.

But can one really finish a Bachelor's at UNISA for $2000 total? I knew their fees were low -- but THAT low? I'll have to check the website!

The only reason I suggested IGNOU was because it had the absolute lowest tuition I knew of in the world - at least where instruction can be had in English.

I really thought UNISA was outside the suggested budget. My apologies if I was wrong.

I wish both of you every success! :-)

Hi

IGOU is a good university, but when it come to accreditation, I dont think it is as popular as UNISA, because many Indians come to UNISA,especially to do medical degrees

Unfortunately Vijay there is no quick fix to this problem, the only way that you can do it quicker is the CLEP programme, and Johann can give you further details on that

Good luck with your decision

Hi Vijay -

Ahmed mentions CLEP tests which are a very good way of accelerating one's University progress. However, I believe you said you're in Singapore.

CLEP tests are not available outside the US as far as I know. Sorry, I don't believe there is a faster track available for you. I have no idea how you could complete a legitimate Bachelor's degree in one year. I'd say the best advanced standing you would receive, based on the two certifications mentioned would be approximately half to 3/4 of a year's study AT MOST - and that depends on the individual University's policy...

Sorry, it looks like 3 years is what you'll have to do, wherever you go. But it WILL be 3 years WELL-SPENT! I know of no one-year method for you. Neither did Ahmed - he didn't realize you can't do CLEP's from abroad, I guess. Sorry if either of us gave you the wrong impression. Our intentions were good.

3 years at UNISA will likely be a bit (not too much, I hope) over the budget you quoted. It's worth it - cheap for a VERY good school.

IGNOU, as I said, is UNBELIEVABLY cheap! You could probably study there enough years to end up with a Doctorate on the amount you quoted!

Whatever you decide - I wish you great success! :-)

AS i mentioned before 3years or fly to the USA, do the CLEP test, the only 2 options you have

johann
12-13-2006, 07:58 PM
Don't! CLEP results are only accepted at US schools -- not for overseas!

BAD advice! :-(
