Hi, just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I'm a homeschooling mother of four and I have an Associates Degree in Applied Science that I got mostly online. One of these days I plan to go back and get my BA when the day comes that I have a bit more time to devote.

Hi, nice to meet you! I am a stay at home mother myself. That's awesome that you're homeschooling four! How was your experience with earning your degree mostly online? What institution did you go through?

I started out at Parkland College and finished at Thomas Edison State University. The hardest part for me was making myself do the work (same as when I was in the local technical college). Everything but the midterm and final exam was done at home on the computer, those were proctored through the original college I started at. I still have some of my books, I just got my degree last year, that my oldest son will be using for high school/college credits. Money well spent in my opinion.

That's great! What do you plan on using your degree for? Are you going into teaching maybe?

Honestly when I started going back to college it was because of my insecurities with homeschooling my kids. I felt that if I had a \"degree\" instead of \"some college\" that I would somehow be more qualified. But then when I got into the whole swing of things I had to answer some questions that were posed to me and realized that not only was I cheating myself but my kids too. My kids are doing great and they were doing great before I started back to college, I don't need a degree to teach them.
If I was going to go to college I needed to be doing it for myself because when my kids are grown and graduated from high school I will still be here with myself. Once I came to that conclusion I sort of floundered on where I wanted to go so I took a liberal arts direction and just combined multiple paths and ended up with an AD in Applied Science and majored in Administrative Studies, but if the time does come up that I can going back I'm going to focus more on the science end of things that I couldn't do online cause of the labs and whatnot that need a classroom setting.

I salute you for being a schooling mother. It takes patience and time to carry your task as a mother and as a student. :)
