Running or any kind of exercise is really good advice for staying healthy. Everybody needs to eat though (no matter how much you weigh). Only YOU can decide what quality and quantity of food you allow into your body. Maybe you could try to prepare your own food (avoiding all the fast/junk food places) -- only use the highest quality ingredients (gourmet) and savour every bite...

You are so right... we need to eat does not matter how hard we try not too.
I wish somday we will find another substance to provide us with energy except for food.

Food is wonderful, you just have to find the right balance! Our bodies need both food and exercise to be healthy. Most people can handle the food part, but it's the excercising on a regular basis that provides a challenge.

I read that sipping grapefruit juice with your meals could help in your dieting. I am not sure of the exact mechanism how it works, but its sort of prevents the fatty stuffs from binding and lodging into your system. The fat/ oil is straight away transported to the exit gate ;) . The problem would be sipping the sour grapefruit juice. Hope this helps.

Is that why grapefruit is supposed to be so fabulous for weight loss? Personally I can't stand the stuff.

I also read that grapefruit have fat burning enzymes. Also, they consist of a lot of water, so are low on calories.... Wouldn't depend on a 'miracle diet food' though... I think variety is a good thing :)

I've also heard ice water with a whole lemon or lime squeezed into it has a similar effect. It tastes good, at least! And adding a drop of tabasco sauce (or something similar) to everything you eat helps boost metabolism.

Sipping green tea or chinese oolong tea between meals also helps, I heard. Infact, one of the TV documentaries demonstrated the efficiency of chinese oolong tea in this regard, but with a twist. Volunteers with oil laden palms were asked to soak their hands in three different bowls, containing either water, green tea or oolong tea. After five minutes of soaking, the bowl with oolong tea had more oil floating while the palm of that volunteer was less oily than the others. Green tea ranked second. This experiment was a crude one but sufficed to impress viewers of the efficiency of oolong tea. The documentary also had a doctor explaining the actual mechanism involved but since it was in japanese, I was lost. However, I didnt lose much, since I got the point that oolong tea helps to defatten you:p

I suggest doing a 5-7 day cleansing diet once month. You can find them online. It not only clean you out but, it helps you desire more nutritious food during the rest of the month.

Well, people really must stop viewing it as a 'diet' and start viewing it as a lifestyle change. Less calories taken in plus more calories expended = weight loss. Decrease calories, increase activity/calories burned.

Diets dont work because you cant possible stick with it indefinitely. Green tea and the such can be great health foods, but they will not keep you 'thin' forever. You must use healthy eating and exercise in conjunction with each other.

Please contact a doctor before begning any new lifestyle change or exercise regimen. You may have factors that we here on the forum are not qualified to diagnose, such as a true metabolic disorder, thyroid problem, etc.

I'm so glad you posted this. I absolutely refused to get into this post until now. It is nice to know that someone in this world besides me knows that "diets" are all talk and no action, only through dedicated action can you hope to lose weight and keep it off. Sure diets will help you immediately drop 10 lbs "of water" the first week but you will get it all right back plus some the moment you stop. I wish there was a way to wipe these dead end ideas off the map entirely.

Whether tragic events touch your family personally or are brought into your home via newspapers and television, you can help children cope with the anxiety that violence, death, and disasters can cause.

Listening and talking to children about their concerns can reassure them that they will be safe. Start by encouraging them to discuss how they have been affected by what is happening around them. Even young children may have specific questions about tragedies. Children react to stress at their own developmental level.

The Caring for Every Child's Mental Health Campaign offers these pointers for parents and other caregivers:

* Encourage children to ask questions. Listen to what they say. Provide comfort and assurance that address their specific fears. It's okay to admit you can't answer all of their questions.
* Talk on their level. Communicate with your children in a way they can understand. Don't get too technical or complicated.
* Find out what frightens them. Encourage your children to talk about fears they may have. They may worry that someone will harm them at school or that someone will try to hurt you.
* Focus on the positive. Reinforce the fact that most people are kind and caring. Remind your child of the heroic actions taken by ordinary people to help victims of tragedy.
* Pay attention. Your children's play and drawings may give you a glimpse into their questions or concerns. Ask them to tell you what is going on in the game or the picture. It's an opportunity to clarify any misconceptions, answer questions, and give reassurance.
* Develop a plan. Establish a family emergency plan for the future, such as a meeting place where everyone should gather if something unexpected happens in your family or neighborhood. It can help you and your children feel safer.

If you are concerned about your child's reaction to stress or trauma, call your physician or a community mental health center.
