Thanks! If you are speaking of this McKinley College www.mckinleycollege.edu in Fort Collins, Colorado, then I can tell you that they are accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council www.detc.org .

Yes, this is the one. I was hoping if any one had personal experiences with either of the programs they offered. The courses in the Health Information Management Program is similar or equal to other HIM and HIT Programs I have researched.

Have you looked at Penn Foster's Health Information Technology degree program? It appears to be 300 cheaper a semester than McKinley and has a great reputation. It is also DETC accredited.

Actually, I have. However, Penn Foster does not offer pharmacology nor pathology in the Health Information Technology Curriculum as so in other HIT/HIM programs that I have researched. These two courses are some of the required medical courses if I want to be prepared for either the RHIT or RHIA Certification. I am also considering Cancer Registry as a career option.

Here is another option from my home state of NC, Pitt Community College offers a Health Information Technology Associates in Applied Science Degree completely online, except for the science courses which you can take at any other college and then transfer them into the program. You could look at Maricopa Community College System for cheap science courses to transfer in.
The program is here:
http://www.pittcc.edu/distance_learning/Cert_degrees.html
Tuition is a bit steep for out of state students, but it is an RA school. Have you tried researching such options in your state?

Thanks, scaredrain! I'll look into this program as well. I, too, am from NC (still live here)!

To qualify for the RHIA or RHIT credentials you must attend a program that is accredited by CAHIIM.
You can find a directory here:
http://cahiim.org/directory/
Neither Penn Foster nor McKinley will meet your needs.

Always good to find another North Carolinian! There are other community college programs in NC that are online, try this link:
http://vlc.nccommunitycolleges.edu/students/
It allows you to search for distance education courses and programs for all the North Carolina Community Colleges.

And, Pitt's program is CAHIIM accredited, qualifying grads for the RHIT credential.
Good luck!
