Online classes in Creative Writing ...

I would love to pursue further education in Creative Writing or Journalistic Writing ... while doing so from my own home. I'm a housewife and a mom and I don't have the time for classes outside the home.

Any suggestions?

Have a look at www.qualityofcourse.com. This is not a degree-credit course, but their guarantee is interesting! I think it goes like this: If you haven't sold enough writing to make your tuition back by the end of the course, you'll get your tuition refunded!

I know the school has been in business at least 20 years and I've never heard anything bad about them. I have an interest in writing, but for formal instruction, I took the bricks-and-mortar route and got a writing certificate from the local University by evening study.

Career colleges like PCDI and Penn Foster also have courses (again, not for college credit.)

If you intend to make this part of a degree program, and you can't go to a campus, see what the community college or University offerings on-line are. Check your favourite school or search on "degree+ creative writing" or "distance education +creative writing etc."

I'm a fan of distance ed. but I'm glad I went to class for writing. The best thing about the courses was hearing the work of other students. The good ones were really good and often gave me something to shoot for. However, that's subjective- may not work for you.

Good advice up above. I have also been checking into some of the Community Colleges. The one in our area seems to offer quite a bit of online courses. Good Luck

We recently moved and there is a technical college here. Most of their courses are very cheap but their writing courses run over $250 per semester! :roll: It would be my first choice to go there, but not at those prices.

I'll check that site and do the searches you suggested. :cool:
