OKay, okay, not really. But has anybody seen this article?

Apparently, Yale is going to start offering a portion of their courses online for free. Not for credit, of course, but you can actually learn from them. Videos, materials, etc. I checked their website and didn't see anything yet, but I think this is a very cool idea... for people who want to learn about something but not pay.
How many of us poor folk out there would like to say "Oh? Well, I took a class about that at Yale." hehe.
WOW THIS IS GREAT RESOURCE
Wait until my employers see's I added to my resume Did a course in yale university !!
Ahhh PERFECT !

I know, I think it's pretty cool, too. Of course, they don't give you credit, but if you're not working toward a degree there, it doesn't really matter, as long as you learn. If they have a class or two that interest me, I may check it out.
I heard that Harvard does something similar.

I actually took a course from Harvard over the internet! It was an amazing experience. The lectures were videotaped during the morning class then placed on the internet for the distance students to watch. You emailed assignements to your tutor and took proctored exams.
Unlike the Yale classes, it was for credit (through the Harvard Extension School). It was absolutely amazing to take an advanced class that otherwise I wouldn't have been able to, from a leader in the field. Because you got to watch the lectures, you almost felt like you were in the class.
It was HARD, though! I had a 4.0 through my graduate program, but only got a B in this class -- and I had a D until the final! The policy was that your final grade could replace your other grades if it was higher. I worked my rear off, studied day and night for weeks to pass that final. I was so happy with my B.

Thanks for this information. That is pretty cool. Even if you don't get any credits it would be neat to say you took a class at Yale. Who knows depending on who you are talking to you might not even have to say it was for no credits.

I haven't seen this one yet but I came across several free online courses for homeschooling my kids, some of them good and some of them passable. There is another institution that offers free courses but I haven't look too deeply into it yet. I'll have to dig through my favorites and see which one it is and post it.

Well that's quite interesting; I guess it won't be as amazing, but free knowledge is always good :)

What a cool idea! A great conversation piece too, as mentioned above. I'm so there!

I did see the article. Very cool stuff. I think Yale is beginning to redefine the paradigm for education.
