View Full Version : Don't be a food stay in school
Don't be a fool choose the right school.
Today I received an email from washington education department, telling me my request for placing a link to www.degree.net (http://www.degree.net) & to the forum articles on illegal universties has been decline,
For the reason "degree.net is offering a list of schools, and it may miss lead there customers".
I do not understand providing a legitimate list of school is not allowed in the U.S today?
If you google almost any educational word thousands of unaccredited school will appear on the first results while the legitimate colleges and universities are in the 3-5 page.
I explained to him how importent it is for degree.net to grow and to be a large educational resources, for students.
Hope he will reply back with a positive answer.

Kyle,
Fenner can surely give you advice that's more personal about how to be taken serious when corresponding with an university administration - or school graduates, for that matter. That is if he has the inclination.
I would like to point out, succinctly, that by slamming the Washington education department, you are less likely to have "a plan come together" in co-opting them. You have weakened your power to persuade them. This is a truism to keep in mind for the future: No one wants to link themselves to articles where they are slammed or otherwise belittled. An attitude of I pity the fool only works for Mr. T, I am afraid.
However, if your quote is correct: degree.net is offering a list of schools, and it may miss lead[sic] there [sic] customers.
I really don't want the Washington Education Department linked to us. In fact, they should be reported on this site, IMHO.
Fenner may be along to explain....

Well, I am still hoping for a positive reply form them :) but thanks for the comment

I think part of it might be due to the fact that they want to have more control over the content then they would if they link with other outside sites such as this one. There is nothing at all wrong with this site, it serves a purpose that the people, for the most part who come here will get some type of help. But at the same time there are some spammers who have come here and listed and posted things that have absolutely nothing what so ever to do with education and I'm sure that the people at WED want to distance themselves from that type of publicity as much as possible. First impressions are very important and to run across something like that even if it is a link of a link can turn some people off. They probably have very strict rules that are followed and if they can't control what is happening they will pass and find others they can control.

Fenner is discouraged. Six errors in such a short post.
I am astonished that they answered at all.
But I do understand their reluctance to link to this website, they must have gotten the impression that we are illiterates.

I am not quite sure why they wouldn't want to link any site that shows bad expierinces with certain schools. Not sure I understand what's up with that. I feel if it will get the information out to more people that is all to the good. Am i wrong on this one?
I think you are absolutely right and I agree with you 100%. Why would they not want to get the word out? It would be nice and would make things so much easier on potential students.

There is a list already:
http://www.ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.asp
In my experience, government departments do not like to link to sites like this. They need to be seen as remaining at arms length from 'banter' which is, sometimes, ill informed.
Cheers,

I don't understand either why they wouldnt link the site to bad experiences on schools. I think that every students should know.

I think GBrown probably has it right. Their lack of desire to link to this site might have nothing to do with the site itself, rather the nature of the site. There's not controlling where the people who post here get their information.
