This is another thing that I find sort of surprising-- that this is offered as an online program. I would think that working with special needs children is something that you could only learn though hands-on practice. It's awsome the variety of degree programs that are available.

I'd have to agree with karenlyn, this kind of job has so much to do with human contacts that receiving the degree online seems...out of place.

I think that they should have both where you can do the course on line and then offered like an internship type of program where students get firsthand classroom experience.

I'm a recent grad of WGU's MBA program. I happen to know they offer teaching programs online with some very interesting methods of monitoring and adjusting teaching methods. For one thing that have you find a monitor who reports on progress and growth throughout the last half of the program. For another, the competancy model tests for actual capability and competancy prior to letting you graduate. This might be one of the only regionally and professionally accred programs in the country.

I'm not getting paid by WGU or any subsidiaries. If anything, I'm paying them through the positive feedback in addition to my tuition which was moderate.
